He got Best Actor Trophy at the Age of 12, for his performance in a School Drama. He was also the Kerala state wrestling champion of the year 1977-78. Till Now he acted in 330 Malayalam films, and 13 other language films. He has won many awards 4 National Award trophies under various categories, 9 Filmfare trophies, 6 Kerala State Film Awards. He was also honoured with Padma Shri Award, the fourth greatest civilian award of the country.
