The UK-India year of cultural reception event was held on the 27th of February 2017 and it is for the second time that Kamal Hassan meets Queen Elizabeth ii. Tamil Popular actor Kamal Hassan attended the function and has a memorable experience to share with. Hassan while meeting Queen recollected his Marudhanayagam shooting days when The reigning British monarch came to Chennai in 1997. Marudhanayagam​ film was an ambitious Rs 200 million film project based on the real-life of Marudhanayagam who contributed to the freedom struggle. British Monarch was invited for the launch event of the film at MGR Film City. The Queen attended the launch event on 16, 1997 and spent 20 minutes.

Kamal Hassan told, '' The Queen seemed in good health and remembered her visit to India fondly. The Duke of Edinburgh was in great shape and health as well. The exchange was brief as there were too many people. You might remember during Her Majesty's visit to India, she visited my film set. Probably the only film shooting she had attended in her whole life.''
